Chris Plester is Environmental Sustainability Advisor within the corporate Sustainability & Climate Change team at National Grid. Over 18 years he has worked in a variety of roles across the business including Communications, Safety, Health & Environment and latterly focusing on sustainability aspects of National Grid operational activities.

He contributed to the development and supports the wider business in the implementation of National Grids corporate sustainability strategy ‘Our Contribution’.

He focuses primarily on the ‘enhancing ecosystems’ element of the strategy which looks to create a ‘Natural Grid’ of sites managed through partnerships, that realise new value and shared benefit for the environment and communities within which National Grid operate.

Working with a wide range of internal departments, NGOs and other stakeholders he leads the development of new projects, utilising ecosystem valuation tools and approaches to inform more sustainable land management practices.

He worked alongside AECOM to develop the natural capital valuation tool and approach that supports decision making and strategy for National Grids site management. This recently won the National Grid chairman’s award in the Environment category.
