James Ranaivoson

Managerial Adviser, European Investment Bank

James is a Managerial Adviser for Climate Change and Environment Finance Operations in the New Products and Special Transactions Department of the EIB. He originates and manages various EIB participations in infrastructure private equity funds in the sectors of carbon credits, renewable energy and natural/environmental assets. He is also designing fund and bond structures with guarantees and/or layered risk features that would catalyze co-investments from private institutional investors.

He was previously Chief Bond Portfolio Manager in the Treasury Department of the EIB, Deputy Treasurer of the Inter-American Development Bank and Director of Treasury of the African Development Bank. Before joining these supras, he worked in Paris in the asset management arm of Caisse des Depots, advising and investing on behalf of life-insurers and pension funds. Previously, he was proprietary trader, derivatives broker-dealer and financial engineer for investment banks and private banking boutique.

James is ABD in Finance from Doctorat HEC Paris, graduated masters’ degrees in Financial Economics and Mathematics from French universities. He is about to earn a master’s degree in environmental management with the University of Bath, U.K. and is an Associated Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (AIEMA) in the U.K.
