Ian Jardine

Chief Executive, Scottish Natural Heritage

Ian Jardine has a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology and a Doctorate in Zoology. He began his public service career in 1984 in the Scottish Office, working successively on urban renewal, housing policy, criminal justice and industrial policy. He joined the Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland in 1991 as Regional Director and remained in that role with the formation of SNH in 1992. He was appointed Chief Executive of SNH in 2002. He served on the Council of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland 2005-2008.  He was President of Eurosite, a network for organisations managing protected areas in Europe, 2007-2010, and is a member of ENCA (European Nature Conservation Agencies). He has also worked with Europarc and IUCN/WCPA, including as a member of the World Protected Areas Leadership Forum. He is proud to be a new member of the Uganda Wildlife Society.
