Gerard Bos

Head of Global Business & Biodiversity Programme, International Union for Conservation of Nature

Gerard has a degree in European Business Administration from the European Business School (Paris, London, Frankfurt) specialized in International Bank Finance. Dutch national, married with two young children, he speaks fluently five languages and really enjoys multicultural environments. He started as a banker and worked for 5 years for Barclays Bank in London and Madrid.  For 12 years he worked for Holcim, one of the largest building materials producers, in Europe, USA and Africa, mainly in Procurement and Logistics. Gerard joined the Sustainable Development team at Holcim headquarters in 2007 and managed the relationship with IUCN developing the biodiversity strategy for the Group. He also represented Holcim in WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) Ecosystems focus area, Vision 2050 and CSI (Cement Sustainability Initiative) activities.

In May 2012, Gerard joined IUCN as Head of Global Business and Biodiversity Programme (GBBP). He has overall responsibility for managing GBBP both programmatically and operationally. He is also the focal point for all business and biodiversity related matters in IUCN regarding policy, programme development, resource mobilization and representation.

His passion for bringing different parts of society together to find the optimal solutions for transformational change is what brought him to IUCN.
