Dr Jyotish Prakash Basu

Dr. Jyotish Prakash Basu is an Associate Professor & Head, Department of Economics of West Bengal State University, Barasat, Kolkata,West Bengal, India. He holds Master in Economics from the University of Burdwan, India, having Statistics & Econometrics as specialization and he did Ph.D. in Economics from Vidyasagar University in India. Dr. Basu has more than 22- year teaching as well as research experiences.
 
His broad area of research is on agricultural economics, environmental economics and forest economics. His expertise is towards agriculture and forestry sectors and econometric model building, statistical analysis especially for deriving policy implication for developing countries with special reference to the Indian economy. His focus of current research is more towards economic, social and environmental dimensions of climate change adaptation, ecosystem services, forest resource management, non-timber forest products and multidisciplinary research on sustainable development, poverty and vulnerability, food security of forest dependent people.  

His two current research projects are running notably “Adaptation to climate change & Household economy: A study on Forest dependent communities in drought, coastal and mountain regions in West Bengal India’ and “Ecosystem Services and Human Well-being: A study in Coastal Sunderbans, West Bengal, India”, which are funded by the Government of India. In the capacity of dynamic researcher he visited 15 countries such as Japan, Australia, Sweden, UK, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, Iran, China, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam & Sri Lanka and he published a lot of papers/ articles in the international as well as national journals.
