Dr Holly Dublin

Director of Strategies, The B Team

Dr Holly Dublin has spent the past three decades as an active practitioner in the field of sustainability - linking the inherent values of biodiversity and ecosystem services to human livelihoods and well-being.  Holly contributed to and supervised programmatic work on long-term ecological monitoring; the international trade and use of wild species of animals and plants; community-based conservation and empowerment with local people in developing countries; strategic planning and programme implementation for the conservation of species (raw materials) ecosystems and relevant policy on all these issues at all levels.  After 20 years on the staff of WWF’s Africa & Madagascar Programme, she served as the elected Chair of the Species Survival Commission, the largest of six Commissions of the IUCN with over 7,500 conservation scientists and practitioners. Holly has been the Chair of the IUCN SSC’s African Elephant Specialist Group for over 20 years. She has led many technical evaluations for the GEF, UNEP, IUCN, WWF and other NGOs and development agencies.

Between 2009 and the end of 2012, Holly brought to bear these many years of experience to work closely with PPR (Kering) in the establishment of its new sustainability department, PPR HOME.  As an integral part of PPR HOME’s development, Holly became Director and Special Advisor for Sustainability in Spring 2011.  She was responsible for the programme side of PPR HOME, overseeing the team of specialists and advising the brands of PPR on key challenges in their supply chains. Among the key pioneering brand initiatives that PPR HOME supported was the Environmental Profit & Loss (E P & L) account and Holly was a member of the core team in its development and strategic rollout.  Last year she oversaw a major feasibility study into the development of a Social Profit & Loss account and now leads the B Team’s work to establish their E P&L Consortium in her capacity as Director of Strategies.

Holly has been an active player in local, national and international policy forums including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES), The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and has served as a Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD).  She serves on the Sustainability Technical Advisory Group of Kering and is a Specialist advisor for the Zeitz Foundation.

She has received many distinguished awards and published over 100 peer-reviewed articles.  An accomplished speaker and writer, she has a proven track record of deeply understanding the issues, thinking analytically and putting lessons from diverse realms into operational practice.  Living in Africa allows her a daily “reality check”.
