Andrew W. Mitchell is Founder & Executive Director of the Global Canopy Programme (GCP), a think tank based in Oxford studying on ‘forests as natural capital’. In 2009, with the support of the UK government, he launched the ‘Forest Footprint Disclosure Project’, now endorsed by institutional investors with over $13 trillion of assets under management.

In 2012, working with UNEP FI at the UN Earth Summit in Rio, Brazil, he brought together governments and business around the Natural Capital Declaration, a ground-breaking commitment to account for nature, by the financial sector. GCP manages the world’s most comprehensive on-line knowledge platform for reducing emissions from deforestation, known as The REDD Desk. He advises Governments and business on security risks from natural capital degradation and served for two years as Special Adviser to the ‘Prince of Wales' Rainforests Project’.
