Head of Group Sustainability, RBS Group

Andrew Cave is Head of Group Sustainability at RBS. The Group Sustainability team are responsible for the co-ordination of RBS’s programme of work on a broad range of social, ethical and environmental issues. They work with the RBS executive team and business units to integrate sustainability considerations into the day to day operations of the business.  

As well as advising on strategy and helping to develop relevant policies, the team produce the Group’s sustainability communications and engage with external stakeholders and opinion formers on these issues. The team are also responsible for the design and delivery of a number of community investment programmes, currently focussed on financial education, support for enterprise and employee engagement.

Andrew has worked in the Group Sustainability team since it was set up in 2004, and has a long-standing interest in sustainable development. He has a masters degree in Economic Development from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies and a Diploma in Sustainable Business from the University of Cambridge.

 He is a Board Member of the AA1000 Standards Board, a past Chairman of the UK chapter of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative, and works with the Steering Committee of the Equator Principles, the leading voluntary standards body for banks. Andrew grew up in Northern Ireland, and is married with three young children.
