Head of the Biodiversity Unit, Acting Director for Natural Capital, DG Environment
European Commission

Stefan Leiner joined the European Commission in 1999, and since then has been dealing with international and EU forest and biodiversity policy issues.

He has been the Head of the Nature unit in charge of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives and Natura 2000 and is since 1 September 2015 heading the Biodiversity unit which is dealing with the implementation of the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy (including global biodiversity issues, the mapping, valuation and restoration of ecosystem services, green infrastructure, business and biodiversity and the new EU Regulation on invasive alien species). He is also temporarily acting Director of the Natural Capital Directorate. 

Stefan Leiner graduated in Forest Sciences in the University of Munich, Germany.
